Jersey introduces environmental car tax to raise cash
Jersey residents who register a vehicle on the island will have to pay an environmental tax from September.
The Vehicle Emissions Duty will be based on the carbon dioxide emissions of each vehicle.
Revenue raised from the scheme will then be used to pay for environmental initiatives on the island.
The move follows a public consultation last year which asked residents for their views on how environmental schemes should be funded.
However, vehicles over 25 years old and those adapted for a disability will not have to pay the duty.
Cars registered by people moving to the island will also be exempt.
However, any owners of unregistered vehicles currently in Jersey will still need to pay the tax if they register after September.
