Jersey charity ‘may not survive’ funding cut
A Jersey charity which supports people who leave care said it may not survive after government funding was suspended.
Jersey Care Leavers Association, which helps former care home residents adjust to life outside institutions, said it could not survive without the funds.
A States spokeswoman said funding was suspended in April, by mutual agreement with the charity’s administration.
The association’s new chairwoman Carrie Modral told BBC Jersey she had not been given a reason for the funding going.
Ms Modral told BBC Jersey: “We can’t look far into the future, it all comes down to the Minister of Health and Social Services and whether or not funding is going to be reinstated.
“We as individuals are not financially capable of taking forward the Jersey Care Leavers Association and at the moment we can not say what sort of future there is.
“It all depends on funding and whether or not we can keep our offices and whether or not we can employ a new administrator to help.”
Last year, a States scrutiny panel review into services for vulnerable children said more support was needed for 16 to 18 year olds leaving the care system in Jersey.
